Concern for people’s safety and security is an extension of the biblical mandate to be a people of shalom. Work by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) on these issues continues an evolving tradition—a growing enlargement of how Mennonites understand God’s call to Christians to be a people of peace in a broken world. The MCC story, which began with relief aid and assistance for fellow Mennonites in Russia in the 1920s, has expanded to concerns for justice and peace building in over fifty countries of the world.
